One conversation can change everything.
Compass Career Guides are experienced professionals who offer honest, firsthand perspective on careers, industries, creative work, leadership, hiring, and career change.
They have built meaningful careers, hired and developed talent, led teams, and navigated decisions and transitions of their own.
They are not here to promise you a job or tell you exactly what to do.
They are here to share what they have learned, help you ask better questions, and offer perspective that can help you make a more informed next move.
Everyone tells you to network. But how?
People tell you to find a mentor.
Reach out to someone in the industry.
Ask for an informational interview.
Build relationships.
But those instructions can raise even more questions:
Who should I contact?
What should I ask?
Why would they speak with me?
How do I explain what I need?
What if I do not know exactly what I want?
How do I make the conversation useful?
What do I do with the information afterward?
Compass Career Guides make it easier to begin.
You can choose a professional whose experience relates to the work, industry, or decision you are exploring and book a focused one-on-one conversation.
What can you bring to a Guide conversation?
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly formed question.
You may want to ask:
What is this role or industry actually like?
How might someone inside the field view my experience?
Which skills would I need to strengthen?
How can I move from execution into strategy or leadership?
How do I make a career pivot without dismissing everything I have already built?
What does a strong portfolio, résumé, or interview story need to communicate?
Am I realistic about the opportunity I am pursuing?
What would you do next if you were in my position?
Sometimes the most useful outcome is not a direct answer.
It is a clearer question, a new possibility, an honest reality check, or a next step you had not previously considered.
